About Us
Bill and Jane Mullen opened Oldies But Goodies for business on April 13th, 1983 in a 3,000 square foot building in the buckwheat fields of Big Flats, NY. We did $1000.00 in business that day, and have been blessed ever since.
In the fall of 1985, we closed the store for two months and added a second floor to our shop. We were ready to grow! Then in 1987, we added a wing to house our workshop and much needed storage space. This gave us another 2,500 square feet of floor space, plus a loading dock.
1989 had us adding a large porch to the store, plus we gave our customers a much needed paved parking lot. We felt we had hit the big time with this improvement. This was also the year that Rich Mullen joined the family business. He currently is the Workshop Manager, and he handles the furniture refinishing and restoration end of the business.
He is the oldest son of the founders.
By 1994 we had to enlarge the workshop to meet the demand for restored antiques, plus the "conversion" antiques we were making by adapting old furniture into modern needs, such as coffee tables, queen size beds, entertainment centers, and computer desks.
At the beginning of the 21st century, we installed our first computerized point-of-sale system. We had hand-written hundreds of thousands sales slips, plus all accounting functions and inventory were performed manually. Once we were debugged and operating, we thought we had died and went to heaven!!
Next, in 2001, we opened our new furniture wing with increased floor space for our growing lines of home accessories and quality new solid wooden furniture. Plus, we were able to have a bona fide receiving area and back stock storage area.
There have been internal modifications done to the store in the past few years to reflect sales shifts and various customer requests. We currently have over 12,000 square feet of retail space (approx. 50 rooms) and over 5,000 square feet of workshop, office, and storage space.
We look forward to serving our fantastic customers for years to come!
